This week was a BIG deal in our house. It was also a big deal in my dad’s house, and my mom’s house, and my auntie’s house and my grandma’s house. Why?? My son got his Learner’s Permit! I don’t know any kid more excited about driving than mine. He has been counting down the days to his 15th birthday for more than six months. And naturally, the entire family joined in on the hugely anticipated countdown.
When he passed the test the day after his birthday, phone calls and text messages reverberated all over North Carolina. I didn’t cry but, my heart was full at the thought of witnessing my young man take another step towards independence. Now he wants to drive me and my husband everywhere! Usually he never wants to tag along with me when I have a ton of errands to run, but funny how quickly things change when going with me means he has a chance to get behind the wheel!
Today we took a pause between trips to Target, Lowes Food, the ATM and a pit stop at my favorite Mediterranean restaurant to take in the beautiful colors of the fall foliage along the streets of downtown. Of course, my chauffeur wanted to keep driving, but we parked the car and took a nice little stroll together. Before I knew it, he had whipped out his iPhone and was taking pictures of the leaves along with me. Although reluctant to admit it, he was captivated by the remarkable reds, yellows, and browns that now appear in the leaves that had been green all summer.
Here are a few of the leaf colors we photographed.
Fall has a lot of character. It is this character that beacons for our attention and begs to be seen. Take a break, right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of your day, to look at the natural world around you, breath deeply and say “I see you”. Hurry, because fall colors only last a few weeks.
